Surrounded by three lavish golf courses in the heart of the Brandywine Valley, the Crystal Ballroom in the DuPont Country Club is an ideal setting for receptions up to 300 people with beautiful parquet floors and a 20 foot high ceiling.
Because Carl is a Marine, he and Colleen entered the room under an arch of swords. The arch of swords ceremony is an old English and American custom, which gives a symbolic pledge of loyalty to the newly married couple from their Marine family. Only the newly married couple is allowed to pass under the arch.
After the entree was served, the friends and family were all treated to a montage of photos projected on a giant screen. It included photos taken of Colleen as a little girl, followed by some pictures of a young Carl, and ended with a collection of shots of Colleen and Carl together.
After the cake was cut, using Carl's NCO sword, friends and family all filled the dance floor until midnight.
The last to leave were Colleen and Carl, who looked around the room and breathed a sigh of relief. The big day had finally come and gone.
